Course Reflection Post

 Florida History Class

As the class comes to an end, I am sitting here reminiscing on the experiences and knowledge I've gained throughout the semester. Learning things I didn't know before about my home state, being able to properly appreciate the culture of the Natives who were here before us and understanding how the state formed into the place it is today. Walking out of the class I felt more knowledgeable and coherent in Florida history and felt as If I could educate the public myself.

Everglades National Park
I learned all this from the books (A Land Remembered and the Florida History textbook), the podcasts and the articles that we had to study for each assignment that we did. I learned all about from the early days of Florida to present day. From that, there was a lot to learn and absorb about the state I live in and love. For example, before I took this class, I knew that Florida's history was influenced by the Spanish, but I never knew just how truly rich the history left by Spanish was. Also, I learned about how Florida had its own cowboys in it, known as the Cracker Cowboys. In addition, I learned a lot about the history of Florida geography and why the Everglades is so small compared to its original size.

All of these topics in Florida history that I learned were some of the most interesting historical topics I had ever learned and in the long run I would highly recommend that students in the future take this class to learn about the wonderful state we call our home.
